After a disappointing few weeks with results, we were struck with a difficult task of a European quarter final away at sandy park. It’s very tough mentally when as a player you give it your all and still fall short, in times like these, confidence is always going to be low. We knew going into this game we would be underdogs and we had nothing to lose.
The boys flushed out Leicester performance and spent the week focussing on how to beat Exeter. Due to a hand full of injuries in the front row, an opportunity for Manny, a 19-year-old loose head prop from the Academy, to step up and make his first European start. We started the game extremely well, winning all the 50/50 battles either in the air or in the breakdown. The effort from the lads was immense, we worked extremely hard to get our way in the game… Tries from Teimana Harrison and Fraser Dingwall helped up along the way.
Unfortunately, against a team like Exeter, if you make a mistake, they are very good at punishing teams. They scored some quick tries against the run of the play which again helped them take the lead.
I look back at the score line and watching the game, I never felt the boys were a million miles away from winning. We put up a great fight against a very good team, I was proud watching the game and seeing the effort boys put in around the park.
Hopefully we can finish the season getting some results under our belt which will put us in good stead for next season. It’s a very short turnaround from the end of this season to the start of next. So, for me personally it’s important I can get my head down and focus on my injury in order to be back fit for next year.
Hope everyone is well and thank you for reading,
