After weeks and weeks of preparation and uncertainty. We have finally arrived at week one of return to competition. The build up to this point has consisted of all sorts of emotions….excitement and frustration being two of the main ones.
As games have grown closer, training has stepped up in both intensity and physicality. So on Friday 7th, we had our first game against each other. It consisted of two 20 minutes halves and the coaches split us into two even teams. Everything was set up how it will be for the rest of the season, all protocols and procedures in place to ensure we know exactly what to expect for the coming weeks.
It is not ideal when both teams have the same calls and plays so when one has a line out, the other team knows exactly where the ball is going to go. But apart from that little obstacle there was some great rugby on show, a very tight close game. It is exciting as we return back to a bit of normality with the premiership returning, Wasps at Franklin’s Gardens on the 16th August. The worst part of our week started this morning with COVID testing and screening to ensure we are safe going into the game. Once this is out the way it is on to the good stuff, preparations for the game and even better game day!
2 months ago, i think we were all sat in lockdown wondering if we would ever be able to finish the 2019/20 season. Such a surreal position to be in and this is why I say the build up to this point has consisted of all sorts of emotions. From the frustration of not knowing if we will get back to playing this year and excitement of getting back to normality. After this week we will be able to get back to game week blogs, giving our honest reflection on results and performance throughout the rest of this season. I bet you’re all a bit bored of hearing about our lockdown ventures.
I hope everyone is well and looking forward to finally having some premiership action on the television this weekend.
