This week, we had the news we had been waiting for…we are able to move from small group training into some team activities. This being stage 2 of our return to competition.
I’m not 100% sure how things are going to work leading into this week but I’m excited to see some of the lads, and start putting in the foundations for our return to playing.
It’s been a great week from start to finish, with some tough fitness sessions throughout. On Friday 3rd, I was surprised in the morning with presents from my girlfriend, followed by a brutal fitness session at the club and a lovely takeaway in the evening. Although the fitness session was tough, I felt I had deserved the Chinese we tucked into!
It’s been weird having a birthday during these times, especially as my birthday fell a day before the pubs finally opened! I am lucky that we are out of complete lockdown and I was able to enjoy it with a few close family members in the garden.
It’s crazy to think that I have been at Northampton now for 8 years, it feels like yesterday I made my debut at 17, running out against Gloucester in the LV Cup. Scary how quick time goes by, and that in another 6-8 years I will be coming to the end of my career. I am quickly realising how important it is for me to continue my self development away from rugby to ensure that I can make a smooth transition when I retire.
Hope everyone is safe and well. Hopefully next week I will be able to give more insight into our journey back to playing.
