Game 3 – Bath
Back to Back.
After an exciting win on derby day, we managed to back it up against an in form Bath side. Bath coming into the game 2 from 2 having beaten Leicester and saracens, were probably slightly favourites. A solid team performance meant a good bath side left the gardens with 0 points, while the home side left with the maximum 5.
Early in the week there were a lot of sore bodies after the bruising encounter against Leicester. Due to this Monday was a learning day for the team and not much physical training was done. Lots of tactics about where we were willing to take risks, where we probably wouldn’t take them and how these risks could possibly give us most rewards. Walk throughs on Monday meant that as a group we went into Friday with all learning and knowledge nailed down.
The game started as the previous week ended. The franklins gardens raw was heard again. This time Tom Collins setting up a try for the captain Courtney Lawes with a well worked pre planned move. That Monday learning coming to the fore and paying off! The game continued in the same vein with David Ribbans causing havoc to the Bath defence, smashing his way through for two good tries. The Gardens was rocking once again. Personally, the night was a little bit frustrating, having felt I could have impacted the game slightly earlier. However, another 5 minutes under my belt is another little bit of experience.
After a slow start vs Saracens in the first week, the team seems to have been put to one side. With two good wins, back to back the team are feeling confident. We travel to London Irish this Sunday in hunt of a third win on the bounce. However, Irish, the team that has come up from the championship are a bit of a dark horse. Having beaten Harlequins on the first day of the season, they will most definitely be no push over. Fingers crossed we can keep this momentum going.
