The FTSE 100 closed up 16.09 points at 6,567.24 as commodity-linked stocks climbed to cushion the blow caused by US job figures missing expectations.
Precious metals miner, Fresnillo, was the top percentage performer of the day, closing up 4.93% as the gold price recovered from its lowest point in 4 and a half years. The indexes weightiest stock, Royal Dutch Shell, closed up 2.39% and contributed 13 points to the index after Credit Suisse raised its target price.
US jobs data held the index back after US jobs figures came in, 7% below estimates.
