Six-year high for UK car production

2013 saw the highest levels of car production since 2007 according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, SMMT.

Buoyed by solid domestic demand and exports outside of the EU, total cars produced amounted to 1.51m, up 3.1% from 2012. The SMMT predict that production in 2017 could exceed the all-time highs of 1972 where 1.92m cars were made.

Cars produced in Britain saw 80% for the export market, of which half where to the EU and the other half mainly to China, Russia and the US.
