22/01/14 Market Movements
Markets closed down 7.93 points at 6,826.33 as data released today shows UK unemployment figures decreased to a level that Mark Carney previously stated could trigger thoughts of an increase in interest rates.
The rate of unemployment dropped from 7.4% to 7.1% in the three months to the end of November – 0.1% above Mark Carney’s target of 7%.
Growth in wages remained at 0.9% in the three months to November, helping to keep a lid on inflation and in turn possibly cooling thoughts on raising interest rates.
