The FTSE100 closed up 38.39 points at 6,819.29 as European shares were buoyed by the U.S. Fed’s pledge to keep ultra-low interest rates for a “considerable time”.

Tui Travel was the biggest climber of the day, up 4.66% after releasing the agreed terms of their planned merger with parent company TUI AG. The deal with German travel group will create the world’s biggest tour operator with a combined market value of £5.2bn.

Conversley, Randgold was the biggest faller of the day after closing down 2.55%.
