25/02/14 Market Movements

The FTSE 100 closed down 35.36 points at 6,830.50 as mining shares suffered their biggest one day slide in a month after fears that slower growth and lending cuts to the property sector in China (the worlds largest metals consumer) would hurt the demand for metals.

Major mining companies such as Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton and Fresnillo fell 2.76%, 1.61% and 3.01% respectively.

Despite todays decline, mining stocks are still up more than 5% this year.
