The FTSE 100 ended its 5 day losing today closing up 8.62 points at 6,457.89

The FTSE 100 was helped by news that RSA have appointed formed Royal Bank of Scotland boss Stephen Hester as their new chief executive.

Shares in RSA climbed 3.2% as investors hope Stephen Hester (the man who is credited with salvaging RBS) would help turn around the fortunes of RSA which is currently struggling with a £200 million hole in its finances following an accounting scandal.
