The FTSE traded flat throughout the date before closing up 11.99 points at 6,563.98. The FTSE 100 was held back by weaker mining stocks which fell as data from China (the worlds biggest metals consumer) came in below forecasts.

Data released today showed that the German economy – one of the key drivers of recovery in the eurozone, appears to be stalling with industrial output declining and exports nearly grinding to a halt.
Despite this data, analysts believe that the current weak spell will prove to be short-lived and that recovery will regain momentum in the new year.
