UK dividend payments to hit record £100bn

Gross dividends from UK companies are on track to top £100 billion next year, according to the Financial Times.

The FT reported that the record pay-outs would be boosted by the £16.6 billion special dividend from Vodafone following the sale of its stake in US telecoms company Verizon Wireless.

The paper cited research from Capita Asset Services and said that next year’s total would also include £200 million in dividends from Royal Mail.

Capita said that without the Vodafone pay-out dividend growth would be worse than the double-digit percentage increases seen in 2011 and 2012.
